Balancing the Benefits of Lightweighting
April 19, 2016 @ 7:30 am - 11:30 am
Lightweighting May Not Be a New Concept, But It Has Never Been More Critical
Over the past several years, the term “lightweighting” has become normal jargon in the auto industry. Lightweighting has become a necessity for OEMs to achieve aggressive fuel efficiency targets which is forcing the industry to react quickly.
The efforts to reduce the weight of components extend to nearly every auto supplier, and the importance of research and development in achieving these gains has never been greater. In addition, developments in materials use have helped manufacturers reduce vehicle weight.
The SAA will examine the challenges that need to be overcome in implementing new, lightweighting technologies and try to answer: can weight reduction be achieved quickly at low cost, or even by removing costs, and without risk to performance or safety? Because much of the low-hanging fruit has already been implemented, OEMs face real-world challenges in finding cost-effective ways to continue implementing further reduction solutions needed to offset weight gains due to increased demand for comfort, convenience and safety technologies.
Register today for this important and timely event which will feature diverse experts and allow plenty of time for Q&A.
