The Lightweighting Innovation Award recognizes suppliers serving the North American and global automotive OEMs with innovative products or technologies that provide either direct or indirect mass savings. The 2018 winner, AAM, developed an innovative driveline technology (QUANTUM) that saved up to 35% mass compared to the incumbent solution without sacrificing performance or power.
Judges for the 2019 Lightweighting Innovation Award have been confirmed and will be reviewing nominations across its tech complexity, the mass savings it offers, cost savings potential and lastly scalability of the innovation. The judges include:
- Abhay (Abe) Vadhavkar, Director of Manufacturing, Engineering & Technology, Center for Automotive Research (CAR)
- Hadrian Rori, Chief Technical Officer, Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow (LIFT)
- Lindsay Brooke, Editor-in-Chief of Automotive Engineering and Autonomous Vehicle Engineering Magazines, SAE International
“This Lightweighting Innovation Award intends to recognize the men and women behind the shiny badge and OEM. One of the functions of the SAA is to analyze the automotive industry, the OEMs and their suppliers. We often hear of the OEM and how they’ve achieved mass savings from one generation to the next; this award and the several nominated suppliers will highlight the monumental efforts suppliers put forth to stand out to their customers.” Abey Abraham, Ducker Worldwide
